Tri-State Guitar Repair Specialists
"Have Gun Will Travel," was the title of a popular television Western that aired during the "50's. It weaved a weekly tale about a hired gunslinger who would go anywhere at anytime if his services were required.
Well, that concept has been applied to the guitar, thanks to Joe Pickerelli's Mobile Guitar Repair (973-398-8094). "The name says it all," says Pickerelli, who has logged over l5 years in the music business. "If a guitar needs repair, I'll go to the guitar. The musician can remain at home!"
Convenience and quality are the two factors that Pickerelli emphasizes about his year-old enterprise. "There's basically no reason for a musician to leave his or her guitar or bass at the local musical instrument repair shop for weeks on end." he points out. " The actual repair job usually takes just an hour or two in most cases. So why should someone wait weeks for their instrument. Mobile Guitar Repair eliminates much of the time that's been traditionally associated with repair work. All my years of guitar repair experience translates into quality work."
From his Lake Hopatcong base, Pickerelli extends his repair services to quite a large area. "Basically, " he says, " I cover an area approximately 80 miles in any direction from Lake Hopatcong. In any event, musicians with guitar problems should a least give me a call if they think I can be of service to them,"
Mobile Guitar Repair offers a basis service for guitars and basses. "My brochure calls it a $65 Set-Up Special," notes Pickerelli, "but I call it a resurrection special!"
The repair "special" includes intonation, an electronics inspection, a fingerboard conditioning, a pick-up adjustment, cleaning/polishing and other services. Prices for all services, of course, do not include the cost of strings, parts and other related materials.
Pickerelli's company on wheels offers a l0 percent discount to students and a 30-day guarantee. "And, I try to give each order the most prompt personal attention possible," he notes. "I know how valuable a musician's time is."
A key advantage of Pickerelli's enterprise is the luxury his customers experience because of the home service approach. "A number of repairs I perform involve classic guitars, custom instruments that are collectors' items," remarks Pickerelli. "owners of these instruments don't like to leave them overnight anywhere, let alone a couple of weeks. With Mobile Guitar Repair, their guitar stays at home, and I don't mind musicians looking over my shoulder when I work!"
Some of the more involved services performed by Pickerelli include fret dressing, refretting, wiring, restoration work and neck resetting.
Because he's on the road most of the time, Pickerelli usually isn't the one who answers the business phone. "But someone will take the message and forward it to me on the job," he replies. "I'll be contacted and I'll get back to the caller."
With the summer months coming up, Pickerelli expects business will continue as strongly as it has been. " Each season of the year presents new problems and demands," he says. "But Mobile Guitar Repair is ready to meet them - wherever they're located!"
