Dear fellow guitarist,

My name is Mike Mattei, and I want to take a quick moment and thank you for requesting my free report. You have just taken a tremendous step in turning your guitar into an instrument that is pure bliss to the ears. Many guitarists never discover these secrets and consequently, their guitar isn’t fully optimized to bring out the very best sound possible. Imagine being able to tune your guitar to sound like the Stradivarius of guitars …

My name is Mike Mattei. I’ve spent my life playing my guitar- always learning new chords, songs & techniques. For some of my closest friends, playing the guitar is a career, but for me it’s much, much more. It’s not just my hobby, my passion and the way I express myself artistically … it’s also one of my greatest joys in life. But let’s be honest- maintaining your guitar can be time consuming, frustrating and down right maddening. And taking it to the local guitar center for basic maintenance is not only embarrassing, but also needlessly expensive! In this special report, I will be going through and revealing some of the “in the trenches” insider information on tuning your guitar to perfection. So without further adieu, let’s jump right on in with our first guitar master-tuning secret:

Guitar Master Tuning Secret #1:

How to Eliminate String Buzz the Easy Way! Once you have your strings off of your guitar it's a good time to check the straightness of your neck without string tension. Look down the edge of your neck to see if there is any visible warping, if so you may need to adjust your truss rod to straighten your neck properly. This may allow you to lower your string action for better playability and it may help to eliminate string buzz for better sound. If you have not been trained on how to properly adjust your truss rod then be on the safe side and find yourself a good guitar technician, or Luthier1, to do the job correctly. WARNING: Improper adjustment of your truss rod can cause damage to the truss rod or the neck that could be difficult, expensive and in some cases impossible to repair.

Guitar Master Tuning Secret #2:

How to Make Your Beat-Up, Worn Out Favorite Guitar Sound Brand Spanking New! 1 A luthier is someone who makes or repairs stringed instruments. This is also the best time to check for wear on your frets that may also cause buzzing by using a metal straight edge to check the individual fret heights. Lay the edge down along the frets bellow where each of the strings would be located and take the corner of a fresh sheet of paper and run it along the contact point of the straight edge to the frets, if the paper slips between the straight edge and the frets then this is a good sign that you have warn some of the frets lower than the others at your favorite playing positions. In most cases simply honing the frets down with a flat file will solve this problem. It may also indicate that you may need to have a fret job done to replace old and overly worn frets. A good fret honing or fret job done by an experienced Luthier can make your guitar play like it was brand new.

Guitar Master Tuning Secret #3:

Avoid This Commonly Made Mistake And You’ll Never Suffer From Scratchy Noises Again! Before you put your strings back on this is also a good time to clean your volume and tone pots if you have a Stratocaster style guitar that only allows you to have access to the guitars electronics by removing the pickguard. Using a good aerosol electronic spray cleaner to clean out non-sealed volume and tone controls can remove dust and dirt that cause scratching noises when you turn your volume and tone knobs. If this dust and dirt is not removed then permanent damage may occur that will leave the pots scratchy even after you try to clean them, this damage may also reduce the output from your pickups to your amplifier, hurting the sound of your guitar.

Guitar Master Tuning Secret #4:

Make Your Guitar Sing Monster Solo’s AND Keep The Collector Value High! Another good habit to get into before restringing your guitar is to clean your fret board and the hard to get to areas below the strings around your pickups, bridge and tail piece if your guitar has a tail piece. Oily dirt buildup can damage and or discolor the wood, paint and finish of your guitar which could hurt its collectible value over time.

Guitar Master Tuning Secret #5:

REVEALED: The Strangest Guitar Tuning Secret! You probably don’t know this, but a major secret to good guitar tuning is to know that a guitar can never be perfectly in tune! The very act of pressing the strings down to contact the frets causes the notes to sharpen; and in some cases, this can be very noticeable. You can use an electronic tuner to perfectly tune each open string at the nut, but the farther up the fret board you go, the more out of tune your guitar becomes. What is necessary to make this inherent problem virtually unnoticeable is to first make sure your neck is as straight as possible and that your frets are in good shape (as described above) so you can lower your strings as much as possible without buzzing. This reduces the stretching necessary to bring the string into contact with the fret and therefore reduces the sharpening of each note.

Guitar Master Tuning Secret #6:

How To Eliminate Intonation Imperfection The final next step is your journey for perfect sound is to make sure your bridge is properly tuned. What bridge tuning means is that when you play each strings open harmonic at the 12th fret. That is, without pressing the string down to the fret, you lightly touch the string at the 12th fret and then pluck the string causing the strings open note to ring harmonically. Then compare that harmonic note to the note you hear when you press the string down and pluck it at the 12th fret, they should be exactly the same. In most cases though the standard note at the 12th fret is going to be sharper, and usually much sharper than the strings 12th fret harmonic. This means that your guitar is out of tune at the 12th fret and this can be very noticeable when playing in a band with other instruments. To solve this problem, the individual bridge pieces for each string have to be moved back towards the end of the guitar and away from the fret board. Effectively extending the playable length of the open string between the bridge and the nut -- which at the same time flattens the note at the 12th fret. Simply continue adjusting the bridge pieces for each string back until the note of each string played at the 12th fret is perfectly in tune with the strings open 12th fret harmonic. Once this is accomplished you can proceed to tune your guitar normally and the guitars inherent intonation shortcoming will be distributed across the length of the guitars fret board instead of being concentrated toward the higher frets. Thus virtually eliminating any noticeable intonation imperfection!
